Joseph McCullin Obituary

Joseph F. McCullin

Age 90, passed away peacefully at Compassionate Care Hospice Inpatient Unit in St. Francis Hospital on Sunday, September 1, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Wilmington, Delaware on December 25, 1922, Joe graduated from St. Paul's School and Wilmington High School. He entered the United States Marine Corp and proudly served his country during World War II, a true member of the greatest generation. After leaving the service, Joe became an electrician and joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 313. He retired in 1984 but remained a proud member of Local 313 for 70 years. He was also a long time member of Defiance Athletic Association.

Joe was preceded in death by the love of his life, Anna Fox McCullin in 2005; his beloved daughter, Kathleen, in 1955; his parents, Paul A. and Ellie (Flanigan) McCullin; and his three brothers, Paul, James, and Francis "Puggy" McCullin. He is survived by his two sons, Joseph M. and Paul and daughter-in-law, Theresa; his daughter, Eileen Moran and his son-in-law, Kevin; his grandchildren, Lauren McCullin and Ryan McCullin, and Patrick Moran and Stephen Moran; and his sister-in-law, Dorothy McCullin.

The family would like to thank the staff at Foulk Manor North for their support and dedication extended to our Dad during his residency in his last few years. In addition, the family would like to thank the staff at Compassionate Care Hospice Inpatient Unit for providing gentle care and support in our Dad's final days and hours.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at Corpus Christi R. C. Church, 901 New Road, Elsmere, on Friday, September 6, at 10:30 am. Friends may call at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Highway, Elsmere, on Thursday, September 5, from 6:00-8:00 pm. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington. The family suggests contributions in memory of Joe McCullin to DFRC (formerly Delaware Foundation for Retarded Children), 640 Plaza Drive, Newark, DE 19702 or Compassionate Care Hospice Inpatient Unit, St. Francis Hospital, 701 North Clayton Street, Wilmington, DE 19805.
