I found this poem on my mantle and don't really know where it came from so I thought maybe Joe wanted me to read it. It's titled "Remember What is Most Important" by Vickie M. Worsham.
It's not having everything go right; it's facing whatever goes wrong. It's not being without fear; it's having the determination to go on in spite of it. It's not where you stand, but the direction you're going in. Remember to live just this one day and not add tomorrow's troubles to today's load. Remember that every day ends and brings a new tomorrow full of exciting new things. Love what you do, do the best you can, and always remember how much you are loved.
Thanks Joe, I needed that. Eternal Memory.
Your sister, Patty

Warm Summer Sun
Warm summer sun,
Shine kindly here,
Warm southern wind,
Blow softly here.
Green sod above,
Lie light, lie light.
Good night, dear heart,
Good night, good night.

Joe and I want to extend our heartfelt condolences to Dr. Joe's family and friends. We cannot imagine the void his loss leaves in your lives. He was always laughing and never had a harsh word. As a college student I was privileged to share the excitement and challenges of life at the Kappa Sigma House @ Wabash College (not as a student but the "girlfriend" who escaped Cincinnati for fun weekend visits and parties) over 35 years ago. I didn't realize at the time that I was in the midst of so many legends in their own right. Athletes, scholars, rich, poor - it didn't matter everyone was there for a variety of reasons and they made it work. We were blessed to reconnect with many of the guys (and spouses and significant others) during the fall reunion of 2008 and how lucky we all were that Joe and Paul were there to share in the memories as well as create new ones. As we all grow older we realize how quickly our lives fly by. I know that Marko would be humbled and amazed and more than anything happy to read the stories, accolades and tributes that have been posted here and his Facebook pages.
I've enclosed a photo of Joe from the Kappa Sig 2008 Reunion. He was always happy to see his fans!

When I first met Joe I could tell he was a good athlete scholar and gentleman who showed his good upbringing. He had a big explosive laugh and was fun to be around. Linda and I will miss you Joe! Our deepest sympathies to the Markovich family.

Joe was a wonderful man - and I and many others no doubt were blessed to have known him. Truly a loss - so soon. He was generous, witty, intelligent and so much fun to be around. A true joy.

His candle burned at both ends, and did not last the night. But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends, it cast a lovely light.
Joe, there is no one that ever met you that could ever forget you. We'll always miss you.

A rare gem of a guy. The world is a richer place for his having lived in it and contributing all that he did. A keen mind and a big heart.
