Joseph Klingensmith Obituary

Joseph "Joe" Klingensmith MT. PLEASANT - Joseph "Joe" Klingensmith, of Mount Pleasant, husband of Annely Middleton Klingensmith, died Tuesday, September 1, 2015. Joe was born January 9, 1926 in Greensburgh, PA to L. Franklin Klingensmith and Sarah Steele Klingensmith. He attended the University of Michigan for two years before leaving to attend Naval Academy. He graduated in 1950 and served in the Navy during the Korean War. He left the Navy in 1954, obtained a degree in Business Administration from Xavier University and began his career as the Manager of Product Development for Proctor and Gamble in Geneva, Switzerland. In 1975, he joined Sea Pines Company in Hilton Head as Director of Marine Operations and Land Development. In 1980, he formed Resort Property Management Company, also in Hilton Head. 1n 1984, he moved to Seabrook Island and worked as a broker and realtor before finally retiring to Mount Pleasant in 2013. While living on Seabrook Island, he was a member of the Exchange Club of Kiawah-Seabrook, served as Junior Warden at The Church of Our Savoir and was a member of St. John's Anglican Church. After moving to Mount Pleasant, he became a member of Christ Church. One of Joe's greatest passions in life was sailing. He had many wonderful memories of sailing with friends in the Carribean Islands. Joe is survived by his wife, Annely Middleton Klingensmith; his brother, Steele Klingensmith (Joanne); his children, J. Scott Klingensmith (Courtney), Michael B. Klingensmith, Kathleen K. Moore (Dennis) and Anne K. Cash (Peter); his step-children, Samuel M. Ramsey (Anne), A. Middleton Ramsey (Katherine), Richard B. Hayes (Patricia), Annely R. Hill, Hope H. Maxwell and Patience H. Wildermuth. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, 14 step-great-grandchildren and his constant companion, Highland Laddie, the Scottish Terrier. Joe was predeceased by his first wife, Beatrice Boyce Klingensmith. There will be a memorial service Saturday, September 5, 2015 at 12 Noon at Christ Church Mount Pleasant, 2304 N Hwy. 17, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29466. A reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Church Mount Pleasant or Pet Helpers, 1447 Folly Road, Charleston, SC 29407.
