Joseph "Ed" Edward Howell, Sr. FOLLY BEACH - Joseph "Ed" Edward Howell, Sr., 94, left us after an accident in his home. On Saturday morning, August 19, 2023, Ed was reunited with his late wife, Mildred "Tootsie"; his late son, Joe, Jr.; and long-time best friend, "Uncle Gerry" Fechter; along with many others. He suffered greatly but left with a smile and a tear in the corner of his left eye - No more pain. Ed was born in Dillon, SC, growing up with his parents, grandmother, and siblings. He graduated from Indiana College of Engineering with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Ed's career ranged from government contracting at Raytheon, to owning several small businesses, being employed at Channel 2 and Chanel 5 television stations as a communications engineer, as well as calibrating medical equipment at the VA Hospital in Charleston. Ed was a member of a nationwide shortwave radio association. He loved to research on his desktop computer. Ed is survived by daughter, Susie Levisen of Folly Beach, SC; son, Russell Howell of Folly Beach, SC; grandson, Christopher Howell (Mandy) of Charleston, SC; sister, Elda Mae McCutchan of Dillon, SC; many nieces and nephews in the Dillon, SC area; and his precious dog, Peaches. He was preceded in death by his brother, Leonard of Dillon. His live in caregiver will miss him greatly. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 25, 2023 at the Folly Beach Baptist Church, 77 Center Street at 12:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
