Marion,
Beth and I offer our deepest sympathy to you and your family. As our financial advisor, Joe proved a superb blending of professionalism and loyal friendship - a good man in the truest sense. We so had been hoping to expand our relationship once we finally moved back home full-time ... alas. So sorry to have missed meeting you at the reception as we had to depart back to Virginia directly after the funeral. Our thoughts and prayers remain with you and the family, and we wish you all comfort and peace in the days ahead.

The famous literary year of 1984 was the year I moved to Charleston, entered the brokerage business and had the great good fortune to work with and learn from Joe Gilchrist in what our manager, Park Smith, Sr. referred to as the Chock Full of Nuts office. Joe was a gracious and generous colleague, a respected leader. I appreciated his business insight and fair dealings. The loss to his family and the Charleston community is immense for he was a jolly good fellow, which nobody can deny.

Despite not having seen Joe in far too many years, I well know his warm, engaging personality and genuine sense of friendship were models in my life. If history is the metaphoric scar on our hand, it will always be the stories that leave an indelible mark, the past that refuses to stay the past. Joe's stories and integrity have made a difference in my life

At EHS, Joe went out of his way to be kind and help others. Boarding school can be a tough transition but he helped many of us make it easier. So very sorry for your loss.
