Joseph Frierson Obituary

FRIERSON, Joseph Mr. Joseph Francis Frierson, age 83, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, August 9, 2008 in Sandy Springs, Georgia. Formerly of Kingstree, South Carolina, he graduated from Newberry College in 1948 and had careers as a cotton buyer for Cooper Brothers Gin, partner at Frierson's Electric Company and manager for Motel 6. Francis was a WWII Veteran and earned the Bronze Star and Purple Heart from the 'Battle of the Bulge.' Francis was a member of the Windsor United Methodist Church in Columbia, South Carolina for 10 years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle. He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Mildred Timmons Frierson. Other survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Lou Frierson Thomas and John Powhatan Thomas III of Marietta, Georgia; sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph Terroll Frierson and Pattie Baggarly Frierson of Marietta, Georgia, and James Franklin Frierson and Paige Bouknight Frierson of Columbia, South Carolina; eight grandchildren, Shannon Waites, Ray and Corley Frierson, all of Columbia, South Carolina, India Frierson Cooper, Adam Waites, Taylor Frierson, Jay Thomas all of Marietta, Georgia and James Frierson of Boulder, Co.; two great-grandchildren, Emileigh Marrs of Columbia, South Carolina and John Thomas of Marietta, Georgia; a sister, Elizabeth Frierson Dickert of Greenwood, South Carolina; a sister-in-law, Julia Hensley Frierson of Sumter, South Carolina and many nieces and nephews. Francis was preceded by his parents, Terroll and Elise Frierson and four brothers; Edward, Terroll, William and James Frierson. Services for Joseph Francis Frierson will be held Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at Windsor United Methodist Church, with Military Honor burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
