Joseph Ferri Obituary

Joseph Francis Ferri, Jr. CHARLESTON - Joseph Francis Ferri, Jr., known to most as Joey, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at the age of 69. Joey was born in Charleston on December 7, 1953, the first child of Joseph, Sr. and Catherine "Mickey" Bozzelli Ferri. His death follows a lengthy battle of over five years with advanced prostate cancer. Joey treasured all of the people in his life. He was a very special big brother to five younger siblings. Raised on Wadmalaw Island, he was our King of the "Play Tree" and never once dropped any of his younger charges while helping them climb up or back down. Joey met Cynthia "Cyndi" Bowen about 30 years ago. They fell in love at a Billy Pilgrim concert and have been together ever since. Joey has been a sound engineer and partner with NBS Production Services for about 30 years where he ran the sound for countless live music events in the Lowcountry. Joey has many friends in the sound business and was a long-time member of the IATSE union, local 333. Joey was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Susie Ferri. He leaves to cherish his memory Cyndi Bowen; their son, Joseph Bowen Ferri of Charleston; his daughters, Jasmine Mitchell (Laura) of Salem, MA, and Heather Offutt of Hot Springs, AR; his brothers, Tim (Martha) of Farmersville, OH, Peter (Lauren) of Meggett, SC, and Michael (Kathleen) of Wadmalaw Island, SC; his sister, Laura Donnelly (Ed) of Charleston; Cyndi's father, Lewis Bowen; and her sisters, Karen and Linda; and brother, Lewis, Jr., and many extended family members along with a large circle of devoted friends. These friends have established a GoFundMe account (https://gofund.me/7f18ee07) to fund an ABLE special needs savings account that will benefit Joseph and to help cover Joey's medical expenses. There will be a Celebration of Joey's Life at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 2501 Bees Ferry Road, on Thursday, July 27, 2023, starting with a memorial gathering at 1:30 p.m. followed by a service at 2:00 p.m. His inurnment will be during a private ceremony held at a later date.
