Joseph Fairey Obituary

Joseph Koger Fairey, II ST. MATTHEWS - Joseph Koger Fairey, II, 88, of St. Matthews, died Friday at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 PM Monday November 21, 2011 at St. Paul United Methodist Church with Rev. Patricia Mayfield and Rev. James McGee officiating. Burial will follow at West End Cemetery. Family will receive friends Sunday from 5 - 7 PM at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home and on Monday from 12:30 - 2:30 PM at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph K. Fairey, III. Mr. Fairey was born in Greenville a son of the late Philip Washington Fairey and Isabel Strait Fairey. He retired in 1989 as President of Fairey Motor Company after 42 years as a Chevrolet dealer. He graduated with the Clemson University Class of 1944. Mr. Fairey was a charter member of the Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College Area Commission where he served for 36 years and a charter member of the Calhoun Country Club. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. Mr. Fairey served as a 1st Lt. in the US Army during WWII in the Pacific Theatre and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years Elizabeth Woodside Fairey and his twin brother Frank Strait Fairey. Survivors include a son Joseph Koger Fairey, III, and wife Becky of St. Matthews, three daughters Ann Krulien Fairey and husband Kerry Stewart of Hattiesburg, MS, Elizabeth Fairey Bates and husband Dennis of Ridgeville, and Isabella Fairey McCall and husband Curt of Mt. Pleasant; two brothers Philip Washington Fairey, Jr. and wife Harriett of Columbia, John Gaston Fairey of Hempstead, TX; two sister-in-laws Martha Buice Fairey of Anderson and Ann Woodside Whetstone of Prosperity; 12 grandchildren Katherine Fairey Reeves and husband Bart of Charlotte, NC, Joseph Koger Fairey IV and wife Addie of Sandy Run, Tynan Lawrence Stewart, Samuel Wesley Stewart of Hattiesburg MS, Roy Oliver McClain, II of Green Pond, Erin Elizabeth McClain, Sarah Nicole Leonard, Mary Marks Leonard all of Ridgeville, Wylie Anne McCall, Margaret Elizabeth McCall, Ches Woodside McCall and John Curtis McCall all of Mt.
