Dear Steve, Thomas and Henry, I am so very sorry for your loss of your dad. As you all know, he, as well as your mom, was an important part of my childhood. Because of the closeness of our families, he was my Uncle Joe. I have so many wonderful memories of your family and ours whenever we visited Charleston. I am grateful that my family, John, Chelsea and Zachary had the opportunity to meet and spend time with your dad when we would return to Charleston for vacation. Your dad always made sure we went to the best restaurants!!! I am sorry that I won't be able to make the service, but know that you all are in my thoughts and prayers. He will for sure be missed! He was truly a fine man and a wonderful "uncle". Love you all....

Our thoughts are with you all. I learned so much about your dad. What a mover and a shaker Joe Cabaniss was and know you are proud that he was supporting civil rights at a time when many turned their heads. Julian will be here for the service, but sadly I will be away. Treasure your memories of such a remarkable man. All the best, Jenny Hane and Julian Wiles

Oh Joe, the sound of your voice expounding on this and that will always be in my heart. I hope you are having plenty of ice cream, where ever you are.

Whenever I become aware that another Marine has answered his last muster, I am reminded by our Marines Hymn that the streets of Heaven are guarded by United States Marines. Rest your pack, Marine, and take your post. You still have important work to do. Semper Fi

We're proud to have known Joe through his visits to Thomas, Deborah, William and Daniel in New York over the many years.
He was a true and gentle man and he made the world a better place.
