Dear Debbie & Family,
Barbara Baskin (Kennington) told me about Jon, and Memory Eternal! We all hung out together at church with such fun times I remember. May we never forget our S.H.A.R.E. Friends at church!
(Senior High Activity & Recreation Evening)
Debbie, your sister & I were in the same grade. My dad, Dean Bailey, died early, suddenly, in car accident in 1988 after we moved away from Charleston. Please know we are praying for Jon and your whole family.

To Jon's family, old and new - it's been many years since Jon was in my life in any active sense. Nevertheless, I know he was the same loving, introspective, insightful, generous man I knew so many years ago. I am so sorry to hear of his death. As he would say, Peace to all of you. Alison Drummond

Debbie,
Micky and I were so sorry to hear about Jon.
We thought so much of him and are blessed by the time he spent in Allendale. Your wedding will always be remembered as a special event in our little church. Please know we are thinking of you and the family.

I'm so saddened to hear about the tragic death of Jon. He was a good friend to me and my husband, Jeff, during Jeff's illness and death. He was so compassionate and kind to both of us. I pray that his family will find comfort knowing that he is with his heavenly father. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Tears flow freely as we attempt to process the tragic death of our friend, Jon. We met Jon initially by attending church with Mac and Anne Watson at JIPC. He became a friend to all of us as we visited more and more frequently during Mac´s six year battle with colon cancer. One of Mac´s nephews asked Jon if he could call him "Uncle Jon." He was a big boy, only a few inches shorter than Jon.
Jon immediately hugged him and said he would be honored to be his "Uncle Jon." Jon´s gracious demeanor, his love of all people, his knowledge of scripture, his ability to pastor made him a full ministerial package. While we are full of "whys," we are grateful he touched our lives. He was the epitome of Micah 6:8...What does the Lord require of thee...to love mercy, to act justly and to walk humbly with God. This describes Jon Van Deventer. Our love and sympathy to his family.
May God hold you in the palm of His omnipotent hand and wrap you in peace and comfort that only He can provide.

TO all of Jon's family and especially Debbie, Please accept my deepest sympathy upon this tragic loss. Jon and I knew each other for many years and through many transitions in ministry and life. I appreciated his quick wit even if it did get him in trouble once in a while. I miss him terribly as I am certain you all do. Please accept my love and prayers extended to each and every one of you.
