Jonathan Marchant Obituary

Jonathan Marchant WADMALAW ISLAND - Jonathan Hamrick Marchant, age 23, beloved son, brother, and friend, passed away on October 16, 2025, as a result of a car accident on Wadmalaw Island, SC. Jonathan had a rare gift for making people smile, whether through a perfectly timed joke, a goofy impression, or simply his warm presence. He was the kind of friend who could turn even the dullest moment into something memorable. Jonathan's life, though far too short, was rich in love, laughter, and genuine connection. He was an Eagle Scout, loved a good hamburger or steak, watching movies, and being with friends. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the joy of living life with him. Though he's no longer with us here on earth, his spirit lives on in the stories we share, the laughter he inspired, and the love he gave so freely. We rejoice that he is home now with his heavenly Father. Jonathan was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Charleston and graduated from First Baptist School of Charleston in May of 2021. He graduated from VOX School of Discipleship in May of 2022, and received an Associate Degree from Greenville Technical College in Automotive Technology in Applied Science and the GM Automotive Service Educational Program in May of 2024. He was in sales at Marchant Chevrolet/Ravenel Ford and greatly enjoyed meeting and helping customers and interacting with his coworkers. Jonathan is survived by his parents, Rob and Dana Marchant of Wadmalaw Island; sisters, Elise Marchant and Celeste (Ethan) Loggia and their son, Samuel; Aunt, Mimi Marchant and her son, Robert; grandparents, John and Ellen Hollingsworth, Great-grandmother, Jane Hamrick; the Dunagan Family of Vilas, NC; the Hollingsworth family of Anderson, SC; the Hollingsworth family of Fountain Inn, SC; along with many loving cousins. A memorial service will be held on October 25, 2025, 3:00 at First Baptist Church of Charleston, 61 Church St. (limited parking at 48 Meeting Street). A visitation time will follow the funeral in the Church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests prayer. Any donations may be made to the Jonathan Marchant Memorial for the building of a new chapel at First Baptist High School in Jonathan's honor. Jonathan will be remembered for a lot of things - like his ability to make a room burst into infectious laughter, or his easy and approachable personality. I think those are both great things about Jonathan, among the many God-given qualities he possessed.

But what I appreciated most about him was his willingness to actually listen - to make you feel heard and appreciated when you felt unheard.

Though God took him home to be in heaven with our Savior and his loved ones far too early, He didn´t take away the memories we shared with Jonathan. Those are ours to keep forever.

He accepted and proclaimed Jesus Christ as his one and true Savior. Let that give us comfort in this sad and tragic time.

Yesterday

Jonathan was a friend of our family and of our daughter, Millie. When we first met Jonathan, we knew he was special. He was so well mannered, polite, kind, and could easily make anyone feel comfortable-especially with humor. We are heartbroken to hear of his tragic passing. We know he is with Our Lord and that gives us peace in this very sad time. Please know that we are praying for your entire family. May Jonathan's memories bring peace and comfort to you all-forever. Much love, Wade, Sharon and Millie Knowles

My deepest sympathies on your loss. There aren't words to express the hurt of losing a loved one, moreover, the loss of a child. May the Lord's hand rest on your hearts to ease the pain. Your family and friends are in my prayers.

Deepest Regards, Vivianne Fuentes, CDK Global

Johnathan and I were good friends in High School at First Baptist. Johnathan had an enormous capacity for fun and humor and never brought anyone down, instead always lifted them up. His passion for cars and all things mechanical was unrivaled and he always loved sharing that passion with others. But most of all he was a kind hearted person at his center who cared very much about those he was close to. Johnathan was a friend to me during a time when few other people were, and I´ll never forget him.

There are no words to express the pain of what your family is going through. Only our personal Savior there to help you walk this path. Tim and I are so very sorry and also praying that your family is at peace. May the Lord comfort you and give you the strength you deserve and need in the days ahead. God bless all of you. We will be praying for peace ahead.
