LARRY RENÉ LeGARDE June 17, 1951 - October 10, 2025
Larry René LeGarde died unexpectedly on Friday, October 10, 2025 at his residence. He was born June 17, 1951 at Port Arthur, Ontario to Jean Mary Campeau and Patrick Joseph (Curly) LeGarde.
He lived in northwestern Ontario most of his early years in Fort William, Heron Bay, and Red Rock. In his early adolescence and adult years, he spent many years in Southern Ontario. He returned to Thunder Bay in the mid-1980s.
Larry was a retired mechanic and he worked for Fleet Auto/Harley Davidson on Rosslyn Road, Commerce Auto Body and T.D. Owen Contractors of Thunder Bay.
Larry was smart, witty, loyal, good hearted, always willing to lend a helping hand, generous, giving, and concerned about others. Larry has a great relationship with his aunt Emma Tougas, who was like a mother to him and he missed her. He had a special place in his heart for animals. Larry faced many challenges throughout his life; he struggled with his substance abuse to control pain.
Larry is survived by his siblings: Rita LeGarde, Leo LeGarde, Carol Murphy, Raymond and Dawn Murphy, Paul and Debbie Murphy, Diane LeGarde Buta and Leonard and Dora LeGarde; special cousins Andy and Ron Tougas who were close to Larry; uncles George Campeau (Sudbury, ON) and Lawrence Campeau (St. Thomas, ON) and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by: his mother Jean Mary Murphy, father Patrick Joseph LeGarde, grandparents Hervé and Marguerite (Maxwell) Campeau and Dan and Julia LeGarde; aunts Emma Tougas, Clara Precosky and Allice Gallant; uncles Philip Campeau, Joe Campeau, Ernest Campeau; siblings Jamie and Patrick LeGarde and sister Lorraine LeGarde Koivu; and numerous LeGarde aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place and a graveside service followed by interment in the family plot at Sunset Memorial Gardens will be on Thursday, October 30th at 11:00 a.m. for family and friends. A reception will follow at the Columbus Centre at the corner of May and Arthur Streets.
