John Wirth Obituary

Mr. John G. Wirth, age 71, of Earleville, MD, formerly of Newark, DE, passed away on Monday, April 8, 2013, comforted and surrounded by his beloved family.

Mr. Wirth was born in Illinois on July 23, 1941, son of the late Sidney R. Wirth and Anna Wirth. A fiscal expert, Mr. Wirth enjoyed a long, successful career as a financial advisor, eventually operating his own firm in Newark. Throughout his career, he advised numerous private clients in investment and retirement strategies.

An avid outdoorsman throughout his life, Mr. Wirth greatly enjoyed fishing and target shooting. Other hobbies included traveling, cooking, reading, conservative politics, and following his favorite sports teams. He was also a passionate pet owner, leaving behind his prized cat and dogs. Most of all, Mr. Wirth was a devoted family man who delighted in the company of his beloved children and precious grandchildren.

He is survived by his brother, Donald F. Wirth of Tucson, AZ; children, Kristin A. Stonesifer of Wyoming, DE, Julie G. Ham of Newark, DE, John A. Wirth of Rock Hall, MD, and Samantha Wirth of Wilmington, DE; eight grandchildren; and wife, Betty Wright. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Virginia Kennedy.

A memorial service will be held at 3 pm on Monday, April 15, 2013, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where visitation will begin at 2 pm.

I remember catching turtles and frogs with Cousin John under a Wisconsin summer sky. Heard the sounds of trains and sweet smells of lake living with our parents nearby. The activity of learning to fly fish beginning with a twist of the rod behind your ear. Watching Illinois trains passing and catching fire flies at the Twin Lakes home. These were brief moments of time I spent with my Cousin John. In the end, I was given 67 years of great family memories and not a bad one can I find. Rest in Peace dear friend!

I am so sad to hear of Johns passing. I had the pleasure of working with John at Legg Mason and then at Merrill Lynch. A true gentle man who I am proud to have known. Rest in peace John.
