I knew Jack for over 15 years as we are members of the Center for Civil War Photography. He was a great guy, very knowledgeable in Civil War Photography. I toured many battlefields with him and especially loved his Charleston tours. He will be sorely missed.

Jack was an inspiration to those who respected history, and he never failed to comment on our newspaper's series about the War Between the States. It was a rare moment when he was not at the Charleston Library Society; he was a living part of the Holy City. We shall miss Jack greatly.

Jack, you were the originator of the special interest tour. And the best teller of accurate tales. Rest well.

A SOLDIERS FAREWELL
Drummers beat assembly, and call the troops in line
Sgt dress the ragged ranks until they're looking fine
Stack the muskets neatly, and fold our proud blue flag
We're the 2nd South Carolina Foot and much too proud to brag
About the years we fought the Brits as across the south we'd roam
But now the campaign is over, our commander was called home

A colorful personality like Jack will surely be missed; but we hope, Mary, that you gain comfort from knowing so many people care.

I have been playing on the steps of the Library Society for years. Jack would always stop and chat with me if he had been inside doing research. I always knew he was working there by his old beach bike parked out front. I will really miss him. He was a very sweet and charming person.

Mary One of our members pointed this out to me I am so sorry for your loss and our loss of Jack. He was quite a man . I am sorry I never got to take his tour. Love and hugs to you from me and the Beach Music and Shag Preservation Society of S.C.
