John Joseph Smith Mt. Pleasant - John Joseph Smith, 80, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away on October 6, 2018. He was born May 9, 1938, in Newark, New Jersey, son of Catherine Drelich and Leo Smith. John was preceded in death by his Son, John R. Smith; Father, Leo Smith; and Mother, Catherine Drelich; Stepmother, Sophie Burba Smith; Sister Leona Kasparek; and Brother, Arthur Smith. He is survived by his Wife of 57 years, Judy Varga Smith; Daughter, Lori S. Bullard and her husband, Charles of Hanahan, SC; Son, Jeffrey W. Smith and his wife, Margaret of Charleston, SC; Grandchildren, Megan Minkin, John Dickson, Nicole Bullard, Anna Bullard, Samantha Roberts and Mercedes Register. Great-Grandchildren, Kaliyah West, Hadley Roberts, Hunter Roberts, Ansley Minkin and Welles Minkin. John was a local business owner and considered many of his customers to be members of his family. He was a member of the Washington Light Infantry, a former Optimist member and served in the National Guard. He enjoyed golf and traveling, but most of all spending time with his family. The family will receive friends on October 11, 2018, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina 29464. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on October 12, 2018, at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina 29464.
