John Schurlknight Obituary

John Shurlknight DARLINGTON, SC - John Leon Schurlknight, age 48, died Tuesday, November 13th. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am today (Thursday, November 15th) at First Baptist Church in Darlington, with burial following in Grove Hill Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the service today (from 9:30 to 11:00) in the church fellowship hall. John was born on January 30, 1964. A Berkeley county native, he graduated from St. Stephen's Academy as Valedictorian in 1982. John attended Clemson University where he was a member of the football team. He graduated cum laude in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. John received his Juris Doctorate from the University Of South Carolina School Of Law in 1989. John was a founding partner and shareholder of Schurlknight & Rivers. Professionally, John was a member of the South Carolina Association for Justice, the American Association for Justice, the South Carolina Bar Association, and the Florence County Bar Association. He was also a member of the Darlington First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. John was an avid golfer, hunter, and loved coaching different sports over the years where he served many years on the Darlington Dixie Youth Baseball Board. John is survived by his wife, Malinda Slaton Schurlknight, a teacher at the Montessori School of Florence, and two children, Lee Schurlknight (Sewanee College) and Laura Schurlknight (College of Charleston) all of Darlington. Also, he is survived by his mother Nancy Schurlknight, brother Tom (Wendy) Schurlknight, also all of Darlington and sister Sheri (Matt) Thompson of Lexington, a nephew, Matthew and two nieces, Savanna and Ryleigh as well as his grandmother, Jessie C. Schurlknight. Also, his Aunts Johnie Ruth Wooten and Ann (William) Sanders and an uncle, Bobby Schurlknight. He was preceded in death by his father, Leon Schurlknight.
