This morning, for the first time since early last fall, I dropped off a prescription at Walgreen's and learned that John had passed away. I was genuinely shocked and deeply saddened because I thought of John as my "early morning sunshine" whenever I picked up prescriptions. He truly was kind, and caring, and such a pleasure to talk with. I always made it a point to go to Walgreen's very early in the morning, before it became busy, so I'd have extra time to chat with John because I always came away feeling uplifted. For you, his family, I know the loss is beyond words. Please accept deepest condolences from one of the people he touched in Miami.

To John's Family: I am at a total loss for words. I have been texting John for the last month or so trying to update his address. Today I googled and discovered this. I am in total shock and sadness. I have known John since 1989. It was funny, I was living in Myrtle Beach and he came for vacation and we met, then when we discovered we both had the Huntington connection we were friends. We kept in touch over the years and then he and his niece came to Key West last Spring Break and we got to spend the day catching up. He promised me he would stay in touch better.
My heart is broken, I will miss that smile, those phone calls and his level headed thoughts.
I was blessed to have John as my friend, and he will be missed.

When people walk up to the pharmacy counter, they are often sick, or frightened by a new diagnosis or a new medicine, perhaps not understanding exactly what the doctor explained to them. John was unfailingly kind, helpful, patient, explaining things to customers, reassuring them, helping them to understand the purpose of the prescribed medicine and how to take it. When I walked up to the counter and saw John on duty, my day was brighter and I knew any problems would be solved. Perhaps most special was the way he genuinely cared about his customers and his colleagues. Words are so inadequate to express the sadness I feel at knowing he is no longer with us. My deepest sympathy to his family and friends. Sincerely, Dr. Patricia Donly, Psy.D. (Coral Gables)

John always had a smile, an encouraging word and what seemed to be an infinite amount of patience. You loved people more than money. A trait that is sorely missed. The world was a better place when you were here
