I am deeply saddened by his passing,

but have been granted a lifetime of fond memories.

Not only am I a better man for having known him,

but was blessed to have his patience, tolerance, and kindliness with me throughout the years.

We residents of Kiawah Island owe a great deal to Jack. His public service was always with the highest intentions and was performed with grace and concern for all. It has been many years since I sat across from Jack at a poker table but my memories are of a superior mind and a quick wit. I believe that we achieve immortality through what we give to others - Jack gave more than his share.

I will remember Jack as a good man with many interests, a gentleman, and one heck of a bridge player. Most especially, I shall remember him as my friend.

On a visit, via train from South Carolina to Vermont in 2003, Dad said he had never expected to enjoy old age so much. I'm glad he had such a good long life. -- daughter, Ann Nottingham

This is one of the best pictures I have of Jack. It was taken at a party at our house in 1999. You can see his good friend Tom Kulick in the background.
