Saddened to hear of Johnny's passing. He was an exemplary citizen of our great community and his efforts to preserve the Morris Island Lighthouse certainly changed the conversation about the importance of Lowcountry preservation initiatives.

The one and only time I met Mr. Ohlandt was a few summer's ago at the Morris Island Lighthouse. It was a beautiful day and while walking on the sandbar I noticed a figure at the lighthouse door. At first we thought it was my imaginaiton but the more closely we got to the lighthouse we realized there was someone there. Mr. Ohlandt greeted us at the door. We were fortunate enough to sign a release and go up the steps to the top. He was also expecting, I believe it was his nephew, who was going to propose to his girlfriend at the top of the Lighthouse that afternoon. We, of course, did not stay for that, but were so happy to have had that experience with him. We have often thought of that day, and how gracious he was to us both. May his family and close friends be comforted at this time. Even though I only knew him for a moment, it will be treasured.

Our sincere sympathy for the entire Ohlandt family.

Pam, Johnny, Sissy, and family,
I am saddened to hear of the passing of Johnny. I will always remember his gentle smile and sense of humor on the rare occasion when he would drop by the bank on James Island for a short visit. He was always so cheerful. I know he will be missed by so many. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. HUGS from Hungary.
