FTCM John Edward Newby, USN (retired) of Goose Creek, SC passed away March 18, 2026.
Born to Chester and Juanita (Sloan) Newby of Crawfordsville, Indiana.
Preceded in death by parents Chester Newby and Juanita Sloan Newby, brothers Russell Eugene Polk, Steven Michael Polk, James Larry Newby, and sister Carolyn Sue Woodard.
He entered the United State Navy in September 1962 and served 30 years attaining the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer. He served on several submarines during his naval career as fire technician. Upon retirement from the Navy, he attained his bachelor's degree at Limestone College and worked as a teacher's assistant at New Hope Carolinas. He and his wife Roxana were avid bowlers on military bowling leagues in Goose Creek, and he bowled three perfect 300-point games.
He leaves behind his wife Roxana Newby, his children Terry Rae Kraft (George), Andrew Scott Hassinger (Rhonnie) and James Hassinger (Mark), grandchildren Elizabeth Kraft, Jessica Kemble (Brian), and Ashlynn Hassinger (Brian), and great grandchild Jackson Carter Martinez. He leaves behind siblings Ruth Ann Craddock, Pamela Kay Melton (Billie), and Cheryl Dianne Halle (Pat) and nieces and nephews Johnna, Jeff, Jamie, Rusty, Jeffrey, Kimberly, Michael, Maijken, Stephen Jr, Katie, and Patricia.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation (T2T.org) or your favorite charity.
