I'll always remember Aunt Kate fondly. From moving her from Chicago as a young kid to visiting with her both at Grandpa's house and her apartment in Mattoon to her taking us to "fancy" restaurants we wouldn't otherwise go to. Kate was always working on needlepoint and ready for a good conversation. Rest in Peace, Kate.

Aunt Kate put me up in her Lake Shore Drive apartment one evening when I got stranded by a snowstorm on my home from Springfield Illinois. I was in high school and the bus from Springfield arrived too late for me to catch the connection to Benton Harbor. When I arrived in Chicago I called Mom because I didn't know what to do and the bus station in Chicago was not where I wanted to be. Mom had already called Aunt Kate who welcomed me to her apartment for the evening. It was great. Kate had to go to work the next morning so she told me to tell the doorman who I was and he would help me get a cab to the bus station. I'd never met an actual doorman before and didn't really know how to act but I followed her advice and made it home safely. I'm very sorry the last of the Grant sisters is gone. They were a great bunch.
