John Marchant Obituary

John Woodrow "Blackie" Marchant HARLEYVILLE, SC - John Woodrow "Blackie" Marchant, 87, widower of Betty Louise Taylor Marchant entered into eternal rest on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at his residence. Funeral Services will be 3 PM, Tuesday, September 20, 2011 in the Indian Field United Methodist Church with the Reverends Preston Grimsley and Michael Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors. Pallbearers will be David O'Cain, Jack Marchant, Wayne Rabon, Lonnie Joe Marchant, Joe Marchant, Jr., and Timmy Walters. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dennis Adams, Matt Moore, Sammy Peppers, Ray Marchant and Ted Marchant. Mr. Marchant was born on January 24, 1924 in Harleyville a son of the late Joe Albert and Mary Atkins Marchant and served in the Army during WW II. He was self employed as a farmer, carpenter and watch maker. He was a member of the Indian Field United Methodist Church and was predeceased by his brothers, Leonard Marchant, Richard Marchant and Clinton Marchant Surviving is a son Steve Michael (Gloria) Marchant, Harleyville; two daughters, Patricia Marchant, Harleyville and Sara Essick, Victor, Montana; grandchildren, Sonja (Scott) McAlhany, Nicole Marchant, Harleyville, Mike (Tina) Marchant, Branchville, Missy (Andy) Tippit, Florence, Lisa Brownlee, Ridgeville, Kelly (Tommy) Hudson, Ruffin, and Steven Marchant, Walterboro; great- grandchildren, Lauren Henry, Logan McAlhany, John Marchant, Kellen Tippit, Tyler and Dylan Hudson, Cameron Brownlee and Jared Reeves; brothers, Jim "Whitie" (Betty) Marchant, Harleyville; Reverend Joe (Marion) Marchant, Canadays, Herman (Diane) Marchant, Harleyville; sisters, Ellen Walters, Thelma Pitts, Margaret Thompson, all of Charleston, Josephine Jeffers, Columbia, Fairey O'Cain, Santee, Rhetta Mae (Gerald) Adams, Spartanburg, and Martha (Brian) Foster, Harleyville.
