John Lynah Obituary

John Heyward Lynah IV GREENSBORO, NC - John Heyward Lynah IV, brother, uncle, and beloved friend, passed away on November 5th, 2024, in Greensboro, North Carolina, at the age of 69 of complications from frontotemporal dementia. Born in Charleston, South Carolina, on January 30, 1955, Heyward was the son of the late John Heyward Lynah III and Anna Colquitt Hunter Lynah, and the brother of the late Nancy Lynah Hood. Heyward was educated at Christ School and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, where he pursued his love of aviation. Heyward went on to have a rewarding career as a commercial pilot, retiring from US Air after many years of service. Heyward was detail-oriented and took comfort in routines. Throughout his life, he found joy on the golf course and casting a line while fishing, pursuits that brought him peace and camaraderie. He was an accomplished model airplane builder, and he loved collecting and driving classic cars. Heyward is survived by his sister, Mary Hunter Lynah; and his nieces and nephew: Zoe and Clare Stebbing of London, England, Jennifer Katzenmiller of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, and Jeff Lynah of Denver, Colorado. He is also survived by many cousins and extended family in Savannah, Georgia. A private memorial service will be held in Savannah in the next few weeks. In lieu of flowers, a donation to AFTD, the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration would be appreciated. I saw the obit in today's P&C, Charleston. My brother, age 74, has been suffering with FTD for several years, and also loves golf and fishing. It is such a cruel disease. My thoughts are with you.
