To the Long Family:

My Mom, Shirleyann Cardinal, was a friend and co-resident of John's at PJP; she had also known him back when they both attended Almost Home ADC. She was very saddened and upset about his passing, and wanted to attend either his wake or funeral; unfortunately, that was not possible for her.

I remember seeing John often on my weekly visits to my Mom; he always had a big smile and a hearty ‘hello’ for me….I will miss that.

On her behalf, and ours, we extend our deepest sympathies to the entire Long family....may your fond memories keep him always in your hearts.

John, Patty and family:

It goes without saying our year in Connecticut was made special because of your kindness, smile and care for us. Brad, Alexander, Jarryd and I along with my parents hold you dearly in our thoughts and prayers. John is in heaven, free of the pain and suffering he endured and is smiling at you every moment of every day.

With deepest sympathies and love. God Bless you and keep you.

Dear Pat

My deepest symnpathy to you and your family. I know the past several years have been tough for all of you.

Jackie called me yesterday with the news. Bridie had called him.

Leaving Stamford 45 years ago, my memories of John go back to the early years. Looking through my scrap book, I found a picture of he and I in army uniforms when we were about seven years old. Another picture has John, Bridie, my brothers Dick and Jack and all the Lynam cousins gathered behind the big house on East Main Street. Another has John, me, Walter Daskam, Ernie and Charlie (last names forgotten) sitting on the steps of the Lockwood Avenue house. One of my favorites is a picture of the AOH softball team on which my brothers and I played and Big Red was the star pitcher.
And, the last of him I have is my wedding party picture which included Bridie and my brothers as well. All the cousins were close growing up. Time and distance have sent us all in different directions, but the memories remain strong as do the memory of your courtship. They were good times and good memories. My deepest sympathies to you, Bridie, the girls and the rest of your family.

Sincerely,

MiKe White

During our boyhood days on the Eastside, a perennial softball game was in play on the Rogers School playground.
Besides his pitching skills,Red's hitting was strong and almost predictable: his leftfield fly balls landing out the flat roof of the boiler room building, while he drove his centerfield hits all the way out to bounce off the wooden steps of the old school buildung.
Thanks for all the good memories Red.
May you be at peace with the Lord.

I was a boyhood friend of "Red." We shared many days playing basketball and softball in the Lockwood Avenue area of Stamford. We were separated by our military service. He, his parents and sister, Bridie, and cousins Dick, Jack and Michael White will always be fondly remembered.

Sincere sympathy to the entire family.
