John Jennings Kerr ISLE OF PALMS - John Jennings Kerr, 66, husband of Rebecca Jones Hollingsworth Kerr of Isle of Palms, SC entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 4, 2012. The relatives and friends of John Kerr are invited to attend his Memorial Service on Saturday, July 7, 2012 in St. Philip's Church, 142 Church Street, Charleston at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL. The family will receive friends after the service in St. Philip's Parish Hall. John was born on June 4, 1946 in Dillon, South Carolina, son of the late Joseph Jennings Kerr and Minnie Lee Berry Kerr. He was a 1968 graduate of The Citadel and served in the United States Army. John graduated from the University of South Carolina, School of Law in 1973. He practiced law in Charleston for 39 years, most recently with Womble, Carlyle, Sandridge and Rice. He was included in Best Lawyer in America in the area of the First Amendment Law. He was a member of St. Philip's Church where he served as Jr. and Sr. Warden and was a member of the Choir for 30 years. His love of singing resulted in his becoming a founding member of Charleston Men's Chorus in 1990. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca H. Kerr of Isle of Palms, SC; five children, Caroline K. Thompson and her husband, Reverend Jeffrey Lee Thompson, of Athens, GA and their children, George Leland and Caroline Marshall; Helen K. Kemp and her husband, Keith Wyatt Kemp, of Greensboro, NC and their children, John Wyatt, Eleanor Seabrook and Chanler Elizabeth; William Joshua Hollingsworth and his wife, Anna Newman Hollingsworth, of Charlotte, NC and their daughter, Isabel Aviah Eden; Benjamin Pinkston Hollingsworth of Charleston, SC and New York City, NY and John Stanford Jennings Kerr of Charleston, SC; a brother-in-law, Harold Arthur Marvin of Homassassa, FL; sisters, Bonnie K. Herman and husband, Robert Edward Herman, of Dade City, FL, Kathleen K. Bell and her husband Sion Alford Bell, of High Point, NC and Winna K. Ellis and her husband, Thomas Baynard Ellis, of Columbia, SC. John was preceded in death by his sister, Armin K. Marvin. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Charleston Men's Chorus, P.O. Box 22674, Charleston, SC 29413 or Four Seasons Hospice, 571 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
