John Johnston Summerville - John "J.J" Wesley Johnston, 48, husband of Jennifer Johnston, of Summerville, passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021. The relatives and friends of John Johnston are invited to attend his Funeral Service at 11:00 AM, Monday, August 30, 2021, at the graveside, Summerville Cemetery. The service will be casual and the family asks that you come as you are. Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be made to National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. Following the service, everyone is invited to join the family at The Honky Tonk Saloon to celebrate John's life. John was born in Barstow, California on October 25, 1972. He was the son of Floyd and Gladys Johnston. He was raised in a military family, traveled all over the country, and graduated from North Stafford High School in 1992. John was a devoted father and husband of 20 years. Known by many as J.J, he was a caring friend, active member of the community, and was always ready to lend a helping hand to many great causes. He will be greatly missed. He was a volunteer firefighter at the Wide Water F.D. in Stafford VA. In 1998 he met Jennifer while working as an operations supervisor with Delta Airlines in VA. He moved to Summerville in 2005, becoming a firefighter in 2006, moving up the ranks to Lt. of Old Fort Fire Dept. In that time, he founded the 911 silent walk, and took part in breast cancer awareness with the Susan G. Koman foundation, the 39 mile walk with the Avon foundation and was a member of the Coastal Carolina Fools. In 2015 he became the operations supervisor for Atlas Air's LCF program where he was able to provide his expertise to help Amazon and UPS with their shipping operations during the holiday season. He was also Instrumental in ensuring the safe delivery of critical PPE supplies to medical personnel during the initial onset of the global COVID-19 pandemic. He loved his classic vehicles and loved taking his Camaro or his F100 to Coffee and Cars, the Rockabillies, and to his club meets with the Motor Mafia. He was a known fixture at the Honky Tonk Saloon, where we worked security and was a bouncer. He is survived by his wife, Jennifer; his children, Jiavona and Joshua; his sister, Brenda Johnston; his brother, Fred Johnston; four nieces; five nephews and many aunts, uncles and cousins in Panama.
