John H. "Jack" Gruber, Jr. SUMMERVILLE - John H. "Jack" Gruber, Jr., 82, of Summerville, husband of Virginia Crean Gruber, passed away Sunday, August, 14, 2016 at Hospice of Charleston. Family and friends are invited to attend his visitation on Thursday, August 18, 2016 from 6 to 8 o'clock at James A. Dyal Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be Friday, August 19, 2016 at 11 o'clock at St. Theresa the Little Flower Catholic Church, 11001 Dorchester Road, Summerville. Rite of Committal with Final Commendation will be in Dorchester Memory Gardens, 11000 Dorchester Road, Summerville. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to St. Theresa's Catholic Church, 11001 Dorchester Road, Summerville, SC 29485. Mr. Gruber was born November 30, 1933 in Tuckahoe, NY, son of the late John H. Gruber, Sr. and Catherine Meyer Gruber. He retired from the United States Air Force after 23 years and then retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard after 20 years. He was a die-hard Yankees Fan. He loved talking with people and was a friend to all. He will be sorely missed by family and friends. Survivors, including his wife Virginia, are two sons & one daughter: Jackie Gruber (Dawn) of North Charleston, Maribeth Broyles (Eddie) of Summerville and Richie Gruber (Lisa) of North Charleston; five grandchildren: Jared & Tyler Gruber of North Charleston, Jillian Broyles of Summerville, and Bailey and Jourdan Gruber of North Charleston; two sisters & one brother: Arlene Gruber of Eastchester, NY, Marilyn Simmerman of Marietta, GA and Freddie Gruber (Judy) of Eastchester, NY; sister-in-law: Frances Gruber of Mt. Vernon, NY and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister & one brother: Lorraine Gilpin and George Gruber. Virginia, So very sorry to read of Jack's passing. We worked side by side for many years at CNSYD. He was a loving man and very considerate of his co-workers but most of all his family came first. He will be sadly missed.
