John and I were school mates from Kindergarten at Crosby school through high school at Central. My sister, Sally Gillis Hosea, and I were reminiscing about John and what a special person he was even in those days, then, two days later received the news of his passing. It seems that John was destined to be loved by all he touched. His death has left a great gap in our lives.

I lived next to John on Valley Street in Akron for many years. Returned our friendship while he was at Ohio State.

We had many memorable experiences. He was a great guy.

Beth, Rachel, Laura and Al.

Your friends in Austin are thinking of you during these sad days. Our parents are treasures we are blessed to have. And your Dad sounds like an amazing man, the tributes from his friends are moving. Wish we had known him.

Your Austin Family.

I fondly remember Dr Gross as a dedicated teacher and scholar. Always humble, despite being brilliant he never felt the need to bring the spot light on himself. His patients loved his kindness and warmth, everybody appreciated his competency and vaste understanding of neurology. We have lost a great teacher and a brilliant mind.

My heart goes out to Beth, Al, Laura and Rachel. I have always respected John for this quiet altruism and mechanical ability and fondly remember our drives from Charleston to Gainesville. One of the smartest guys I know, he will be missed.

Rachel and family, Betty and I extend our deepest sympathies on the loss of your father. Both Betty and I have experienced this inevitable but never easy period in one's life. Hopefully you will find comfort knowing he is no longer suffering and obviously in a better place. Family is the best tool to get you through times like this...just remember we are family and here for you.

Although I only knew John for a short period, he touched my heart in many ways. He had a smile that lit up a room, and he made you feel happy to have been a part of his life. He has a very loving, supportive family, that I will forever be grateful to have known. My love and sympathy to all.

I knew Dr. Gross best through his children, and what a great tribute to him and to Betty that the children rallied around both of them in their illnesses. My sympathy to all.
