John Fender Obituary

John Marshall Fender SUMMERVILLE - John Marshall Fender, Sr., 82, of Summerville, South Carolina, husband of Terri S. Fender, entered into eternal rest Friday, February 14, 2025. His Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, February 18, 2025, in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, at 1:00 pm. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will immediately follow at Riverview Memorial Park. John was born August 16, 1942, in Lodge, South Carolina, son of the late Clyde William Fender and Merle Dandridge Fender. He joined the US Navy where he served during the Vietnam War until 1966. Afterwards he earned his associates degree in Horticulture Technology and went on to work at the USDA in the vegetable breeding lab. John was a devoted father and husband. He loved spending time with his children and supporting them in their hobbies. He also enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his many beloved friends. John was well known by his kindness, friendliness, and his quick wit. He loved everything life had to offer and always knew how to make others smile. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Lena Fender Shockley (Tyler); son, John Marshall Fender Jr.; and his siblings, Mary Caligiuri, Anne Hicks (Billy), Susie Padgett (Roy), Jenny Hoats (Carroll), Mike Fender (Sandy), Barbara Bennett (dec. Donnie); along with many dear friends and extended family. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Betty Scott, Florence Mason (Howard), Helen Dooley, and Clyde Fender Jr. (Carolyn) Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
