John Edwards Obituary

To John's family - My name is Ron Sloan. The advertising agency that I was Creative director of handled the advertisiing and marketing for the Mills House for many years. I designed the logos for the Mills House and Barbados Room. I worked with John and Tom Starling. It was wonderful to have a client who became a dear friend. John and I stayed in touch over the years since he retired. but after my wife developed dementia I have lost touch with several friends. I think of John often. He was the kind of person who it was easy to connect with and relate to. Today I thought of him and decided to give him a call. The phone was answered by a stranger which stunned me and then saddened me as that number was my only connection. My son, who now works with me, looked him up and I was stunned to see an obituary - from 8 years ago. It can't have been that long. The world is not as sweet a place as it was when he was here. I would love to connect with his family if possible. He was perfect for the Mills House - both are the epitome of class. What a wonderful man.

Every year I see this I'm saddened. John and I worked together for years and he was a tremendous gentleman and a wonderful leader. He is sorely missed.

So sad to learn of John's passing. He was a wonderful person and great co-worker. Rest in peace John.

Shocked and saddened to hear of Johns passing. He was an amazing man.

I just heard that John has taken a new GM position in heaven where he will bring class, style and a sense of humor that will serve him well. I have valued Johns friendship greatly for the past 30 plus years. He was a true gentleman and leader in the industry that also had a great focus on family. I will miss our chats about both.

My Prayers to you and your family. I have wonderful memories of working with John at the Holiday Inn Riverview and The Mills House Hotel. He will be greatly missed by many but never forgotten.

So sad to hear this - my thoughts and sympathies are with you and your child. John and I were peers with IHG for many years as GMs. I always had the utmost respect for John and saw him as a role mode. A real gentleman and a very accomplished General Manager. I had the pleasure of hosting him at my hotel - Crowne Plaza Union Square - a couple of times during the 2000s and so glad that I was able to catch up with him again. He will be sorely missed, may he RIP ..........

Growing up in Cheraw, we all knew each other and went to School together. Of course, remember so well being in Cheraw High School with John. Fondly remember Kathy and Graham. How the years have flown.
John was smart, funny and had a dry wit. His family was so important to him and her never met a stranger.

Susan, so sorry to hear of John's passing. We grew up together and we shared so many early memories growing up in Cheraw and part of the Becker Family. My thoughts and prayers are with you and family.

Heaven has gained an angel to welcome us all with grace and an easy, quick smile. I find it comforting to know John will be there, to sit with all of us one day--in "Heaven's "Best Friend" lounge.John was a true Southern gentleman, the kindest of people. Those of us lucky enough to know him or work alongside him knew a man of great character, a beacon of hospitality in the city he loved. Condolences to Susan and John's family. Rest in peace.

I served on the SC Autism Board with John a long time ago; he and Susan have welcomed my Brother, Terry, into their home with so much love.

Susan and family, i was shocked and saddened to learn of John's passing. Please know that you have been and will remain in my thoughts and prayers.

John will be missed as a trusted friend and colleague in the hospitality industry. He and his family opened our Holiday Inn Riverview and was always available to me and my staff to answer questions about the building and it's history. Will miss our occasional lunch meetings and wisdom he shared on the hospitality industry. My prayers and best wishes are extended to the family as they move through these challenging times. Growing up just down the street from the Edwards family I felt close to them all. John and I were only seven months apart in age and his sister was only several months older . Then there was Graham the youngest.
