January 11th - I am so sorry to learn about the passing of your husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and of a gentle giant who touched the lives of so many, including mine. One of my fondest and most touching memories involves the genuine concern and kindness he showed to me as a brand new reporter who just moved to the area in 1981. When he learned I had no family here and would spend my first Christmas by myself, he insisted I spend the day with the Dodds, even threatening to send a police officer to pick me up if I didn't show. When my mother visited Charleston the first time after I moved here, he made sure he met her and let her know - parent to parent - that I'd be alright in this new town because he and others would keep an eye out for me. My mother never forgot his kindness and neither did I. Even as the years passed, I never knew when he'd pop up in person or on the phone just to ask how I was doing. He always blessed me with his laugh and was quick to share stories of his growing family and their many accomplishments. He loved you very much. Thank you for sharing him with so many. Jamie Thomas

To Mrs.Dodds and family,
The Mount Pleasant community, is saddened by the loss of a great leader. A man who stood out for what he believed would make a safer community. Indeed he was the best that he could be.
I only remember his strong loving presence passed through the generations of his loved ones and what more could a human being want to give back to his life on earth...
Hooray and May God bless him!

I am a recipient of a scholarship that he set up way back in 1995. My brother was one in 2001. We now both have families. Thanks to him, I am a successful band director and my brother is currently starting his own business. He had become a part of our family and help us become strong pillars in the Christian community. He will be missed, but he lives in all who he has impacted.

Dear Mrs. Dodds and Family,
We are so saddened to hear of your loss. As a neighbor for many years, it is impossible to think encountering him without both smiling and feeling good. Mr. Dodds was a leader of people who always took time to ask how others were doing - and cared enough to listen to the reply.
Children were his favorite people in the world. He made each one feel special and always had a word of encouragement to offer - whether they were family or complete strangers. So many were touched by him.
The Dodds' family's loss is great but, hopefully (due to the huge body of family and friends collected along the way) the burden will be lifted by so many that are close by. You are in our prayers

Aunt Flo,
We want you to know we are here if you need us. You are all so very special to our family. Uncle Johnnie meant the world to all of us and he will be so missed. Your visits to Pappy and Mammy's house in Bamberg were always so special and the stories were always so great to hear especially about baseball. I could have listened to them for hours. We love you all very much and we understand your loss and the void you feel right now. But, we also know God has a new Angel in Heaven and Uncle Johnnie, Mammy and Pappy are probably having a huge family reunion.

Mrs. Dodds, Cathy, Carolyn, Marilyn, Joanie, Johnnie, and Robert,
Your husband/father will always be in our hearts forever. He was a great and wonderful man, and we have many fond memories of his life to look back and smile about. I will always remember the story he would tell about Mrs. Flo being on the roof fixing the leak while he stayed in the house watching ball games on TV. We saw Coach and Mrs. Flo after church in October and he got to tell John Michael this story and we all laughed. You have much to be proud of and if we can do anything to make it easier for you please do not hesitate to call us anytime day or night. May God bless you all and keep you close to him, your husband/father is in heaven now and at peace.
Love,
Susan, Johnny, and John Michael Torlay
