John DeAntonio Obituary

John Thomas DeAntonio WILMINGTON, NC - Mr. John Thomas DeAntonio, 66, went to his heavenly home on February 27, 2013. Mr. DeAntonio was born December 24, 1946, in Charleston, SC, the son of John J. DeAntonio and Raines K. DeAntonio. He attended Blessed Sacrament School and graduated from Murray Vocational School. Mr. DeAntonio retired from the U.S. Air Force as MSgt. in 1988. He served with the 620th Tactical Control Sq. north of Da Nang RVN, the 701st Air Defense Sq. at Ft. Fisher AFS, NC. Then he was assigned to the 603 Tactical Control Sq. in Germany for four years before being sent back to the USA. A year later, he was back in Germany with the 612th Tactical Control Flight. After five years he returned to the USA and was stationed at McClelland AFB in California with the 1849th Electronic Installation Sq. From there, he was a member of the Contract Performance Evaluation Team and traveled from Point Lay, Alaska, across the top of Canada, to the east coast of Greenland. Then he returned to 701sr Radar Sq. at Ft. Fisher AFS, NC where he retired in 1988. He received the Vietnam Service Medal and the National Defense Medal. After retiring from the US Air Force he worked with Exide Electronics and Chloride Electronics. After leaving Chloride Electronics he obtained his Real Estate Broker's license. He was a member of the "Vietnam Veterans of America" and The American Legion, Post 10, Wilmington, NC. Mr. DeAntonio is survived by his wife, Leslie Saunderson DeAntonio, two daughters, Shannon Marie DeAntonio and Shelly Ann DeAntonio, of Wilmington, NC, two sons, Thomas Shea DeAntonio (Amie) of Raleigh, NC and Shawn Michael DeAntonio (Cathy) of Boston, MA. Three grandchildren, Brooklyn, Cassady and Killian. He has one brother Raymond L. DeAntonio (Sandra) of Charleston, SC and two sisters, Annette D. Webb (Darrell) of Charleston, SC and Mary L. Fowler (Marshall) of Maui, Hawaii. Also many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was loved dearly and will be missed by all who knew him. He had a quiet gentleness and loving nature. The family will receive friends and family at a visitation service to be held on Saturday, March 23, 2013 from 1:00 to 2:30PM at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home at 1620 Savannah Highway.
