John Dawsey Obituary

John Wesley Dawsey, Jr. HANAHAN - John Wesley Dawsey Jr, 96, of Hanahan, SC, entered eternal rest on April 6th, 2024. Born October 19, 1927, in Aynor, SC, Son of the late John Wesley Dawsey Sr and Agnes Felkle Dawsey. He joined the United States Marine Corp and served in the Korean War and WWII. He was employed by SCE&G for 36 years before retiring. John was a member of the IBEW for 70 years. John was an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in North Charleston, SC, where he also was a part of the choir. He loved his community and was dedicated to keeping it beautiful and always lending a helping hand in any way. He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Jacquelyn Harding Dawsey of Hanahan. Children: Kim David Dawsey (Kimberly) of North Charleston, Helen Dawsey Dixon (David) of Cross, Karen Dawsey Olinger of St. George, and Rebecca Dawsey Hill (Tal) of Lebanon. Grandchildren: David Dixon Jr. (Tracy), Lori Eadie (Everett), Jamie Dawsey, Megan Ballentine (Phillip), Dennis "DJ" Hill (Kristy), Tal "Bubba" Hill (Kristina), Jake Dawsey, Rory Goode, Will Perry (Rachel), Bryce Kinlaw; 20 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great- grandchildren. Sisters: Laurel Shifflet of North Charleston and Amurelise Elsie of West Ashley as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by, his mother and father; brother, Reggie Dawsey; sisters, Gloria McCracken and Jackie Neutroth; grandchildren, Joellee Dawsey, Joshua Dawsey and Jessie Dawsey; and great-granddaughter, Zoe Mae Dawsey. A Vistitation will be held on Thursday April 11, 2024, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Carolina Memroial Funerals & Cremation, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC 29406. The Celebration of Life will follow from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm in the Chapel. The Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers: Wounded Warriors and Roper Hospice in Ladson.
