Daves Family,

You do not know me. I learned of your journey through the JH Board. I lost my father to this horrible cancer September 15, 2006. Please know that my thoughts are with your family, and I have said many prayers for you all. Be gentle with yourselves in the coming days, weeks, and months.

We were saddenned to first hear about John's illness and deeply saddenned to hear about his passing. John was a strong person and fought as hard as he could. He was a long time friend of our family. We will miss him dearly but we will remember the good times. Our thoughts and prayers are with Sherry and the family as they deal with this difficult situation.

To Sharon and family,
Nothing can take away the pain, but I hope the knowledge that others care will help ease it some. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

I had the pleasure of knowing and working with both John and Sharon in Brunswick County and it was impossible to not smile when you were around them as individuals, and especially as a couple. Not a day passed that John did not find occasion to "dote" over his grandchildren, and was always looking forward to their next visit while storytelling about their last. John leaves an absence in our lives that can never be replaced. You are in all of our thoughts and prayers.

I have met many people in my life, and only a few of them are forever engrained in my memory. John is one of them. I had the pleasure of being hired by John in our school system in NC. We had many moments of private conversation about our work and sometimes private life. John was probably the most honest and dedicated person that I ever met. John believed and practiced that employees should have the skills, knowledge and love for their job and perform it accordingly. He did not like personal confrontation, but would not hesitate to impose his authority for any wrong-doings. Above all, his two greatest loves in life were his Family and his Work. I learned much from him and his guidance was always truthful and sincere. John, I will miss you dearly, but you will never be forgotten. Love, Doug
