John Crump Obituary

John Atwell Crump Jr., husband of the late Barbara Crump, born on November 25, 1930, passed away surrounded by family, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, quiet strength, and devoted service. He was the beloved son of the late John A. Crump Sr. and Ruth Crump. A visitation of family and friends will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025, from 11am to 12pm at Bethany UMC Spell Chapel. The funeral service will begin at 12:00pm. Burial will immediately follow at Summerville Cemetery. A proud veteran, John served his country with honor in the United States Navy, aboard the USS Yorktown and USS Roosevelt. Following his military service, he worked as a nuclear inspector supervisor at the Charleston Naval Shipyard. He found great pleasure in gardening, tinkering in the garage, fixing, building, and finding satisfaction in every project. An avid outdoorsman, John enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He enjoyed regularly walking and sharing fellowship with friends from Summerville Baptist Church, although he was a member of Bethany UMC. John's quiet dedication, love for the natural world, and unwavering sense of community left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. He is survived by his daughter, Janet Crain; his grandchildren: Robert A. Crump, Jr., Colleen Jeffords (Bryson), Patrick Crump, and Mandy Rogers (Gene); his great grandchildren: Caroline, Alex, Taylor, Peyton, John, Sophia, Kennison, Jacob, and Tyler; his sister, Sue Ray; as well as numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert A. Crump, Sr.; and his sister, Ruby Mae Minick. The family will be accepting flowers in memory of John Crump. Also, the family requests memorials be made to the USS Yorktown Association, https://share.google/X1ceJtrKKxrPGgE4Q

Earlier today

I don´t know for sure if this is the same Mr. Crump that I knew as a neighbor to the shelter I managed, but if it is he was an absolute joy to get to know as a neighbor. He always had time to chat when I would see him out and about. When he had extra fruits and veggies, he made sure the ladies benefited. Blessings to his family.
