I have just learned of Mr. Crout's passing. It was of the utmost shock to hear of this loss. Of such a kind and caring man. He will truly be missed. Dearest John,

I am utterly shocked and saddened to hear of your death and I can hardly believe, you have left the world so early, too early. My innermost condolences go to your kind parents, family, loved ones and to those, who shall miss you truly.

I will always cherish our friendship at Richland Northeast High School. We played football, studied German, had lots of fun but also deep discussions about Japanese history, German military uniforms and Friedrich Nietzsche’s philosophy--sometimes in life, all you have are your memories, and these memories of you, dearest John, comfort those, who you have left behind. Farewell, my brother...we will meet again in Heaven or Valhalla.

I remember John as a student at Ricland Northeast. At that time, I was a faculty member and worked with student government. John was active in leadership and an inspiration to us all. His tireless energy said much about his dedication and school spirit. To the Crout family: you are in my prayers.

John was a wonderful person. He always had a smile on his face, a kind word to share and he never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed. I hope that as time passes, the tremendous sense of loss and sadness will be replaced with only warm memories of the times that you shared with John. Having lossed a loved one way too soon myself, I have come to a place where I know I would rather endure the sadness of the loss than to have never had the joy that the person brought to my life. I know that John brought alot of joy to you and others. Again, my deepest sympathies for your loss.

I was fortunate to have worked with John at the Solicitor's Office and to have spent a good deal of time with him last year when we tried a case on opposite sides. Regardless of the situation, John was always kind, jovial, honest, humerous and capable. He was one of my favorite colleagues, and will be greatly missed.

John's warmth, humility, and genuine concern for others was exceptional, and he will be greatly missed in the Charleston legal community.

John was a good friend and had a generous spirit. Both me and my wife worked with him, and we grew to trust his counsel, enjoy his company, and cherish his big laugh. I'm deeply saddened to hear of his passing and will be praying for you all.

The Crout family, I am so very sorry for your loss. I worked with John some years ago and what I remember most about him was his positive attitude. He always had a smile and had the ability to brighten a room and fill it with laughter. God bless you all.

I was so sad to hear for John's passing I was in the Citadel class 1987, USC Law School 1990 and was a lawyer friend / colleague of John's for many years. John's will always be remembered by me as having a huge heart and a great "can do" attitude. John and I worked together a few years back and he was a good friend through a very hard time in my life. His humor and ability to help me keep things in perspective was a gift from God. John remains an influential figure in my life. He was deliberate calm. From our experiences as freshman in Golf Company at The Citadel to just a short conversation two weeks ago, his kind and personal demeanor were a testimony to the man within. We will miss him, terribly.

John Crout was a fine fellow...I knew him many years ago in our youth in Charleston right after he graduated Law School and began his professional journey...Larger than Life and a Laugh that made everything in the world seem right at the time.....I tried to get together with him for lunch recently to re-connect....should have tried harder....to Rev. Crout and Joyce know that he will be missed by many and touched many lives....A freind to all that encountered him including me.

We have lost a very dear friend, brother, and son. The loss of John’s magnanimous personality will leave a void in all of us. He touched so many in such an uplifting way. The mere sight of John would bring a smile to my face, because I knew his infectious energy would rub off on me as soon as we spoke.

what a great fun guy to be around. John and I were Palmetto Boys State citizens together at The Citadel, and we were were in the Senate together there. He was a junior counselor with me the next summer and we were friends throughout our time together at The Citadel. loved to hear him tell a story with that booming voice. wonderful lawyer who will be sorely missed
