John Colgan Obituary

I miss my big brother every day. I loved being able to talk with him. John often made sense of things, that were hard to comprehend He was the bond that kept the family connected. I miss his sense of humor and his laughter. I wish that we had more time together.

I still miss John every time I recall the good times with family and friends in the summer at the pool. He made quite a splash!

Very sorry for the late response but I just found out. John was a incredible man I met him 20 years ago while I was working with Pella windows and doors and several projects and he treated so kindly and like everyone else his smile lit the sky. I always told him he was my brother from another mother. John hope to see you someday Brian Healey

It's hard to fathom that 5 years have passed since John said farewell to his friends and family. His spirit will endure, and the many happy memories will not fade with time. He had a profound and positive influence on us. Thanks, John.

The theme about his life was his million dollar smile. I remember the "arm" he built that held up his mailbox. Recently I asked him for advice about repairing my balcony. But who can ever forget his smile while he putted around town in his pickup. I'm saddened he left us so soon. Thank you, John, for making us all feel better with your daily smile that exists in our mind's eye.

I met John as a result of the demise of the Cambria Village Pharmacy. When Dana Nelson moved out, I discovered that the floor in the front of the building was sagging and the substructure had to be rebuilt. My contractor at the time was Ryan Patrick Adams and he felt, due to the complexity of the work that he would associate with John Colgan, who had more experience with that type of work.
They gave me a bid for the work and did the job, removing the "sag" and restoring the floor to a non-sag condition and the work was done with true craftmanship.
When they gave me the bill, it was $2,000.00 less than the bid. When I inquired as to why, I was told that the work did not entail as much time and effort as they had anticipated, hence the lower charge. This has never happened to me in my 45 years of dealing with contractors.
RIP John, you were a true gentleman and a man of your word.

John was the greatest-always smiling. we loved him. he built our addition and we loved seeing him every day and trusted everything he did. Peter Wolff(,who would have said this but he beat john leaving earth by few months) and his wife ,Jeanette much love to his family

I had just run onto him, at Costco, must have been about a week before his passing. I regret to say we didn't really talk, just a quick hello. I should have talked to him longer. What a great guy and positive attitude.

I am deeply saddened at his passing. Although I met John only a few years ago I was truly blessed to have known him and honored that he considered me a friend. He was a really good human being, uplifting, kind, caring and genuine. I am so grateful to have had what little time we shared together. I wish it had been more. He and his smiling face will be missed.

John was an amazing man, I feel so honored to have known him and to have been befriended by him. A wise and loving soul, truly motivated to do good for everyone. I am a better man for having known him.

We are saddened to learn that John has been "promoted". His wife and children will be in our prayers. We are fortunate to have known him from our first days here in Cambria. Our home is a daily reminder of his skill, his talent and the warm friendship that developed while it was being built. We will miss him greatly.

I was so saddened to read in the paper today of John's passing. What a nice and caring man. Susie, Anna & April, you were always top of his priorities. Our throughts and prayers are with you and your family. These times are not easy. Jolene and I have great memories of your family at school events when our girls were growing up together.

I'm grateful to have know John. We spent a week as chaperones for our kids Yosemite trip. He was so fun and such a genuine person. I'm so sorry Susie, April & Anna for this huge loss for the family and community. He will be missed!

A craftsman, designer, intellect, inquiring mind, devoted father and a loving friend. We'll miss all these attributes and more but what a delight to have known and worked side by side within the sphere of his amazing soul.

You were one of the first people I met in Cambria and you were always so kind and so full of great advice....Even though we did not see or talk to each other everyday I considered you a dear friend...I knew that if I needed to talk with you, you would make the time for me..You are one of the real people in this world...I will miss you but more than that I will miss your contagious smile....

I hate losing a friend it leaves hole I can't fill. But I will never forget, I am happy for the relationship we had, John will never leave my heart. I know you're grieving, but when you think of it, know i love you suzy and family.

What an exsmple of a fine human being John Colgan is. From his sense of humor and joy in life, devotion to his family and care for the earth, he just lived his values every day. I am so sad to hear of his passing.
