John Brockington Obituary

BROCKINGTON, John KINGSTREE - John David Brockington, 85, husband of the late Elizabeth Mixon Brockington, died Saturday, May 21, 2005, at the United Methodist Manor of the Pee Dee after an illness. Mr. Brockington was born in Charleston, SC, a son of the late Samuel Keels and Ester Jane Gordon Brockington. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a degree in Civil Engineering. Mr. Brockington later received Master's Degree from NC State in Civil Engineering. He was a registered land surveyor from 1946 until his retirement in 1996. Mr. Brockington was a member of the Kingstree United Methodist Church, where he was a former trustee, member of the building committee and former Sunday School Superintendent. He served in the US Army Air Corp as a First Lieutenant with the Air Intelligence Branch during WWII. Mr. Brockington was the first tax assessor for Williamsburg County and was the building inspector for the town of Kingstree Rotary Club, serving from 1964 until 2004. Mr. Brockington was a member of the Williamsburg Historical Society and the Three Rivers Historical Society. Surviving are two sisters, Mary Lee Brockington Stewart of Wilmington, NC and Gordon Brockington Jenkinson of Kingstree, SC; one brother, Samuel Keels Brockington of Lake City, SC. The family would like to express special appreciation to Mrs. Betsy Gordon as his caregiver. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m., Monday, May 23, 2005, in the Kingstree Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Memorials may be made to Kingstree United Methodist Church, 510 N. Longstreet Street, Kingstree, SC 29556.
