John Barnhill Obituary

John Barnhill Mt. Pleasant - John D. Barnhill, 63, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 2, 2022, with his partner, Krissie, by his side. Born on March 31, 1959 in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late John and Joan Barnhill. He graduated from The Hill School in 1977 and Ohio Wesleyan University in 1981. John was raised in many places, but resided in the Washington, D.C. area for much of his life. He was a force in the direct marketing industry throughout his career, most recently raising hundreds of millions of dollars for non-profit and political groups through his company, JDB Marketing. John was diagnosed in 2001 with leukemia, but in 2003 found Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, where he was given almost another 20 years of life to share with us. From that moment he measured his life in the milestones of his daughter, Alex's and his life, among them her graduations from elementary and high schools and college, her first job and his introduction to Krissie. We all knew John for his work ethic and his dedication to his colleagues, many of whom followed him to JDB Marketing. John was devoted to many people, as a father, a partner, a brother, an uncle, and a friend. He was known for his many lifelong friendships and his willingness to share his humor and wisdom with all. Alex was truly his biggest pride and joy and he shared a loving and devoted relationship with Krissie. Nothing brought him more enjoyment than spending time with them, his family and friends while sipping a cocktail at sunset. John is survived by his daughter, Alexandra (25), of Washington, D.C., partner, Kristina of Mt. Pleasant, sister, Laura (Bill) and their sons, William, Christopher and Andrew and brother, Paul (Andrea) and their daughters, Leigh, Taylor, and Bella. He is also survived by his dogs, Birdie, Gracie and Izzy. The family welcomes you to visit the McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mount Pleasant, SC 294654, at 1:00 PM on June 11, 2022. The memorial service will follow at 2:00 PM at the funeral home. A service will also be held in the Washington, D.C. area at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center online at www.fredhutch.org/memorial or mailed to Fred Hutch, 1100 Fairview Ave N, Mail Stop J5-200 Seattle, WA 98109.
