John was so smart and funny, and we were grateful to have him as a neighbor and friend for many years. I enjoyed the detailed and occasionally slightly off-color stories he'd tell me about his life, and my husband Hew loved to play chess with him. We'll miss him.

My condolences to the Alston Family for the lost of your loved one. It saddened me to open my newspaper to see this. I am a cousin and I do remember John from way back. My brothers and I use to call him, "Fifty". I thought of him often, Again, my condolences and may God keep your minds and hearts at perfect peace.
