John Benjamin Ackerman, Jr. AWENDAW - John Benjamin Ackerman, Jr., 84, husband of Shirley Jackson Ackerman of Awendaw, SC passed away on Friday, March 18, 2011. The relatives and friends of John Ackerman, Jr. are invited to attend his Funeral Service at the graveside on Sunday, March 20, 2011, in Wilson Cemetery, Awendaw, SC at 4:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at J. HENRY STUHR MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL on Saturday, March 19, 2011, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Mr. Ackerman was born on October 9, 1926, in Honey Hill, South Carolina, son of the late John Benjamin Ackerman, Sr. and Pauline Wilson Ackerman. He served in the United States Navy and worked as a surveyor for the Corps of Engineers. He is survived by his wife, Shirley J. Ackerman of Awendaw, SC; two sons, Duane Ackerman of Honey Hill, SC and Dale Ackerman of Darien, GA; two daughters, Amelia Ackerman and Patrice Ackerman, both of Awendaw, SC; four grandchildren, Benjamin Ackerman of Alaska, Megan Ackerman of Awendaw, SC, Amanda and Jessica of GA; six great-grandchildren, Taylor Ackerman of Awendaw, SC, Haley and John Ackerman of Alaska, Austin, Freddie and Michael; three sisters, Peggy Cooper of Georgetown, SC, Carol Cadell of Moncks Corner, SC and Gail Bunch of Charleston, SC and two brothers, Irvin Ackerman of Honey Hill, SC and Trenton Ackerman of Shulerville, SC.
