Joel Lambie Obituary

Joel Lambie Joel William Lambie, beloved son, brother and uncle, died Sunday, August 31, 2014 at his home in Chicago, Ill. He was 35. Joel was born in June 1979 in Templeton, the second child of Connie Atkinson and John Lambie. He spent his childhood in Paso Robles, surrounded by a close-knit community of friends and family. He was passionate about music and art and traveled extensively through Europe with his father and sister during his teenage years visiting museums and theaters in the UK, France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands and Budapest. He graduated from Paso Robles High School in 1997. Joel was a natural craftsman and excelled in design and construction. He trained as a theater technician at the Pacific Conservatory for the Performing Arts (PCPA) in Santa Maria, and was eventually employed there as a props and scenic artist for several seasons. In November of 2009, Joel moved to Chicago to pursue a career in technical theater and immediately found work as a props artist at theaters such as the Goodman, Looking Glass, Drury Lane, TUTA Theater and more. He also worked for a time building scenery for ABC's television series, Betrayal. Joel was an invincible force of nature. He led with his heart. He moved through the world with an expectant air of joy and humor. His compassionate nature and give-what-you-have outlook touched everyone with whom he came into contact. His spirit was generous, his smile was bright and his bear hugs were legendary. Joel is survived by his mother and step-father; Connie and Obbie Atkinson; his father, John Lambie; his sister and her husband, Sarah and Jack Greenman; his step-siblings, Jennifer, Jake and Amanda; his nieces and nephews, Walker, Charlie, Trace, Contessa, Isis, Lucca and Daisy; and his girlfriend Meg Grgurich. Memorial services are still in the planning stages and will take place in Cayucos, in the coming month. Memorial contributions may be made for a scholarship in Joel's name at Pacific Conservatory through Tami's Pine Valley Funeral Home, PO Box 543 Halfway, Oregon 97834. Joel left such a lasting impact on my life with his friendship and love, and I know I'm not alone in that. At school, in theater, in life, he made friends everywhere he went because he always treated everyone with kindness. Life was more fun with Joel around, and he made everyone around him feel better. I can't believe it's been 10 years since he left us because I still regularly think of him and tears come to my eyes thinking that I won't get to see him again in this life. Joel, you're in my mind and in my heart and I miss you all the time.

My deepest sympathy to you, John, Connie and Sarah. We wonder why a child is taken before "us". It doesn't seem right, but the Lord has His plan. Bless you all.

Joel was my son's very good friend in high school and also when they lived in oregon. Joel was such a joy to be around and was always a very happy and sweet young man. This breaks my heart to see him gone but know he will be missed very much, but I know he is still here in spirit. Singing with the Angels and being his jovial self in Heaven..Until we see you again my friend. Prayers for his family!

Connie, John, and Sarah. We are so very sorry to hear such sad news. Some have said a light has gone out here on earth. If true, then surely there must be a new, bright and shiny, star in the heavens. Keep the good memories close. Don and Jean Murray

We are so deeply saddened to hear of Joel's passing. Though we hadn't seen him since the happy days of Paso High, we know that he continued to be a source of light, sunshine, smiles and supportive energy. He was always so friendly with everyone at PRHS..no exceptions. We have always admired him for that lovely quality. We were also happy to read how involved he was with the arts. We know he made important contributions to the lives of everyone he touched. May you find it in your hearts to smile and bask in the sunlight that he has left for you.

Joel was one of the greatest people I knew in high school. Even though I haven't seen him in almost 20 years, I think about him often and warmly remember the friendship he extended to me. I know I'm not alone in this... everyone loves Joel because he loved everyone. I honestly can't remember him ever not treating another person with kindness. I can't imagine how his parents and sister are feeling right now, but I pray that you'll feel comforted knowing that Joel changed the world for the better and left the people he came in contact with better for having known him.

John and Sarah, Noel and I want to let you know how very sad we are to hear of Joel's death. We will always remember the talented, smart and funny young man who roamed the halls of the High School. He was always willing to share a smile or a hug. If you were in need of a moment of his time, he gave it freely. He was a treasure of a friend who will be sorely missed.

Deepest condolences to the Lambie family and friends. Words can't express how sorry we are for your loss. We at
Redtwist Theatre had the fortunate pleasure of working with Joel. Always very positive, and smiling, laughing. But a true serious artist. Rest in peace Joel.
