Jo Vaughters Obituary

Jo Ann Vaughters CHARLESTON - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jo Ann Vaughters. Jo Ann Vaughters was born on Tuesday, April 2, 1935 on James Island to the late Franklin and Josephine Judge. On the morning of Wednesday, February 3, 2021, Jo Ann was called home. After the death of both of her parents at thirteen years old, Jo Ann was sent to New York City. She later met and married the late Willis Reeves, Sr. and their union resulted in five beautiful children. Jo Ann was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Wilkes-Barre, PA. She was a Deacon and served faithfully for 45 years. Upon returning home to James Island, she became a devout member of Payne Church on James Island, SC. Her greatest loves were her heavenly father and her children. Jo Ann had presence when she walked into a room. She loved using her hands to create and would crochet for hours, non-stop. She gifted numerous blankets, scarves, and recently, made hats for the homeless. Jo Ann had a passion for music - and instilled in her children the love of music - each playing various instruments. Jo Ann leaves behind to mourn and rejoice, her children W. Gregory (Maria) Reeves of New York, NY, Tonya Reeves of New York, NY, Frederica Reeves of Charleston, SC and Sonya Rosalind Reeves of Charleston, SC, grandchildren, Wade (Zee) (Jena) Reeves, Mariah Reeves, Enrique Reeves, Alexander Reeves, Michael Reeves. JoAnna Reeves and Ryan Reeves, special cousin Selby Judge, goddaughter, Yvette Judge, Godson Derrick Lucas, great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She is preceded in death by her son, Wade Reeves, brothers and sisters: Rita, Verna Lee, Amanda, Elizabeth, Francina, Franklin, Julia Mae, Harris, Clarence, Curtis and Rosalind. A graveside funeral will be held on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at 12:00pm at Payne Memorial Garden, James Island, SC. Due to COVID-19 protocols, everyone is required to wear a face mask and practice social distancing.
