Jo Nipper Obituary

Jo Ann Riley Nipper TUSCALOOSA, AL - Jo Ann Riley Nipper, age 82, died September 10, 2016 at Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa. She moved to Tuscaloosa, AL from Charleston, SC in March 2014 to be near family. Jo Ann was born May 24, 1934 in Winfield, Alabama, to Raymond Verner Riley and Lucy Bell Hodges Riley. She attended Winfield High School before moving to Tampa, Florida where she graduated from H. B. Plant High School_ Jo Ann later attended and graduated from Charity Hospital School of Nursing in New Orleans, Louisiana, She practiced her nursing profession in several cities in the Southeast, including Atlanta, Georgia, where she met and married Thomas A. Nipper in August, 1963. Jo Ann moved to Charleston in 2001 and was an active member of the community and a prolific fundraiser for numerous local charities. While in Charleston, Jo Ann was an active member of St. Michaels Episcopal Church. Jo Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas A. Nipper, her parents, Raymond and Lucy Riley and two brothers, Dale Riley and Dwight Riley and sister-in-law, Omega Riley and nephews Lance and Steve Riley of Winfield. She was survived by a sister-in-law, Euna Jordan Riley of Winfield, a niece Karen Byrum of Douglas, AL, two nephews Scott Riley and Kelley Riley of Tuscaloosa, AL. Visitation will be Tuesday September 13, 2016 from 1:00 -1:30 at Miles Funeral Home, Winfield, Alabama. A grave-side service and burial will follow at 2:00 PM in Musgrove Chapel Cemetery, with C. W. Box officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations in Jo Ann's memory be sent to Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Rd, Tuscaloosa, AL 35404.
