Joán Witherspoon Obituary

Joán Witherspoon MT. PLEASANT - Joán (JoAnn) H. Kirby Witherspoon of Mt. Pleasant died on August 21, 2013. Joán was the daughter of the late Kathleen H. Kirby and Joseph P. Kirby of Florence, SC. Her funeral services will be held at the Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church, at 302 Hibben St.; Mount. Pleasant, SC on Sunday, August 25, 2013 at 2:00 PM. Burial services will be private. She is predeceased by her brothers, Donald Clyde Kirby and Jimmy Alexander Kirby, of Florence. Joán is survived by her husband, Samuel M. Witherspoon, Jr., her two children, Samuel M. Witherspoon, III of Cary, NC and Ann K. Witherspoon of Mount Pleasant, and two grandchildren, Samuel M. Witherspoon, IV of Asheville, NC and Caroline I Witherspoon, of Cary, NC. Also surviving are five nephews, William E. Gasque, III of Marion, Mark A. Bostic of Myrtle Beach, Charles J. Bostic of Murrells Inlet, Samuel W. Bostic of Myrtle Beach and Joseph P. Kirby of Florence, and one niece, Sarah J. Kirby of Florence. Because of her long association with the Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church, memorials may be made in her name to the Music Ministry of Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church, 302 Hibben St, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464. Joán very much appreciated the benefits of the South Carolina State Library Talking Book Services for the Blind or Physically Handicapped, and memorials in her name may be made to SCSL, Talking Book Services, S.C.
