Jimmy Conner Obituary

Jimmy Lee Conner MT. PLEASANT - Jimmy Lee Conner, 84, widow of Rex M. Conner, passed away peacefully at the Sandpiper Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on Saturday, January 21, 2012. Prior to moving to Charleston in 2011, she had resided in Greenwood, SC for 17 years. Mrs. Conner was the daughter of Thomas Jefferson and Nettie Willis Cantwell of Anderson, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her father, mother and brothers, Robert W. and William C. Cantwell, as well as her husband. She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Ann and her husband, Kenneth Atkinson of Indianapolis, IN; son, Dr. Brian Thomas and his wife, Connie Lea Conner of Charleston, SC; three grandchildren, Chris A. Delong of Indianapolis, IN, Melissa L. (Conner) Lahmeyer and her husband, Shawn of Largo, FL and Dr. Bradley Thomas Conner of Philadelphia, PA; and a soon to be born great-grandson, Dylan Archer Lahmeyer; daughter-in-law's sister, Ina Ahearn of Charleston, SC; step-granddaughter, Mandy Atkinson and step-great granddaughter, Hannah Lahmeyer as well as many beloved in-laws, nieces and nephews. Mrs. Conner was a 1945 graduate of Anderson High School, Anderson, IN and attended Indiana University, Bloomington, IN. She spent six years with CPA firms in Anderson and 28 years as an Executive Assistant in association management of such trade groups as the Indiana Concrete Council, Ready Mixed Concrete Association of Indiana, National Precast Concrete Association, Association of Public Accountants of Indiana, and others. From 1994 to 2007, she worked in the Nursing Administration office of Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood, Sc as a resource pool secretary. She was a member of Anderson Friends Church and of Carmel Friends Church in Indiana, Alpha Delta Pi Sorority at Indiana University, Job's Daughters, National Honor Society, Beta Sigma Phi, Caring and Sharing Group of Woodfields Baptist Church in Greenwood, AIM investment club, Mah Jongg Club and other social clubs. She volunteered at the Greater Greenwood United Ministry Free Medical Clinic, Hospice Care of the Piedmont in Greenwood and participated in community affairs. A celebration of her life for family and friends will be held at a later date in Indiana. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Hospice Care of the Piedmont, 408 West Alexander Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29646. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation for the exceptional loving care given by the entire nursing staff of the Sandpiper Rehabilitation Unit during her brief illness.
