Jesus Rivera Obituary

The Honorable, Jesus S. Rivera N. Charleston - The Honorable, Jesus S. Rivera, of North Charleston, South Carolina, widower of Amalia Rivera, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, December 11, 2022. Jesus was born September 19, 1934, in Camerio, Puerto Rico, the son of the late Emiliano Rivera and Faustina Suarez. He proudly served in the US Army stationed in Japan, Korea, Germany and Hawaii. In addition to his love and devoted service to the military, "Jesse" as many friends called him, loved fishing, boating, playing the harmonica, guitar, ukulele and singing. Jesse had a passion for serving God and helping others. He was the minister of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church as well as a member of "La Iglesia de Nueva Vida" in Puerto Rico. He studied Criminal Justice at the University of Omaha in Nebraska. He served as a police officer and magistrate in Harlem, Georgia. He was a jokester and fascinated so many with the enthralling stories he often shared about his life. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. Jesse is survived by four sons, George Rivera of Ladson, SC, Felix Alberto Rivera of Brooksville, FL, Jesse Rivera, Jr. of Summerville, SC, and Jeffrey Rivera, SC; two daughters, Amy Compton (Dale) of Little Rock, AR, and Emily Rivera Sharpe of FL; four brothers, Angel M. Rivera, William Rivera, Hiram Rivera, and Luis F. Rivera; and two sisters, Virginia Rivera, and Ada Colon; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Amalia Rivera; son, Ralph Rivera; daughter, Nilda Rivera; and sister, Celia. His Funeral Service will be held Saturday, December 17, 2022, in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, at 2:00 pm. Entombment to follow in Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Rd. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at 1:00pm.
