Jessie Townsend Obituary
TOWNSEND, Sr., Jessie The relatives and friends of Rev. Jessie Townsend, Sr., and those of his wife, the late Mrs. Carrie Smith Townsend are invited to attend his funeral service, 11 a.m., Monday, September 5, 2005, in St. Mark AME Church, 5766 Salters Hill Road, Ravenel, SC. Rev. Curtis Fludd is the pastor. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Viewing for Rev. Townsend will be Sunday, 3:00 to 6:30 at the chapel and 7:00 to 8:30 at the church. The Christian Wake will begin at 7:30 p.m. with the family present. Rev. Townsend is survived by his devoted daughters and sons, Jessie Mae Love (Edward), Arthur Lee Townsend (Marcella), Irene E. Hodges (Marvin), Rev. Jessie Townsend, Jr. (Betty), Mrs. Mary Alice T. Morrison, Mrs. Jestine Graham (Kenneth), Mr. Ernest Townsend (Willie Mae), Ms. Irma Townsend, Mr. Robert Townsend (Jaquetta), Mrs. Deborah Elaine Butts (Tyrone), Mr. Herbert Townsend (Jacqueline), Mrs. Karen Lynn Waters (Robert); 45 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; brother and sister, Mr. Nathaniel Townsend and Mrs. Gertrude Hann; sisters and brother-in-law of Mrs. Helen Townsend, Mrs. Stella Townsend and Mr. Perry Smith, Jr.; aunt-in-law, Mrs. Doreen Maxwell; nieces, nephews, cousins, and spiritual children. I've been best friends with Reverened Jessie Townsend Sr.'s granddaughter, Leslie R. Hodges for 28 years. My fiance (Cornelio) and our daughter (Alexis) had the pleasure of meeting him in 2003. The impression that Rev. Townsend Sr., made on us will last forever. Although the visit we had with him was short, we feel blessed to have been able to meet him. We want to extend our deepest condolensces to your family and want you all to know that you are in our hearts, thoughts and prayers.
