Jesse Cummings Obituary

Jesse Franklin "Frank" Cummings, Jr. HAMPTON - Mr. Jesse Franklin "Frank" Cummings Jr. of First Street West in Hampton died peacefully Wednesday morning at his residence with his family by his side. Mr. Cummings was born August 24, 1922 in Lodge, a son of the late Jesse Franklin Cummings Sr. and Maline Carter Cummings. He was the Owner and Operator of Cummings Oil Company in Hampton and Walterboro, and Hampton Motor Sales. He also enjoyed farming. He was a member of Hampton 1st Baptist Church, Evergreen Masonic Lodge #153 and served on the Board of Trustees at the Medical University of SC. He was a former member of the Hampton Town Council, served on the Board of Directors of Palmetto Federal, and a WWII Army Veteran. Surviving are his wife of 73 years; Laurine Varn Cummings of Hampton; Sons: Varn Cummings and wife "Rita" of Hampton; J. F. "Frankie" Cummings and "Sara Light" of Columbia; Brother; Henry A. Cummings of Ruffin; Sisters: Ann C. Padgett of Denver, NC; Grandchildren: Laura Balgari of Atlanta; Christina Margaret Cummings of Charleston; J. F. "Jess" Cummings IV of Lexington; and Courtney C. Bridwell of Charleston. Great-Grandchildren: Shana and Rebecca Balgari of Atlanta and Allan Cummings of Lexington. Mr. Cumming was pre-deceased by his Brother: Jack E. Cummings. Funeral services will be 11 A.M, Saturday morning in the Chapel of Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home in Hampton, with burial in the Hampton Cemetery. Friends may call at the Chapel in Hampton Saturday morning prior to services beginning at 10 A.M. The family suggests that in Lieu of Flowers, memorial may be made to the Hampton Cemetery Association, 603 4th Street West, Hampton, SC 29924.
