Jesse Absher Obituary

Jesse James Absher, 83, of Summerville, SC passed away on June 21, 2025. Jesse was born in Scottville, NC on January 20, 1942 to the late Tom and Sybol Pollard Absher. Jesse retired from the US Navy after 20 years of service including tours in Vietnam. After retirement, Jesse worked for Kodak in Rochester, NY for two years. He then moved to Charleston, SC to work as an engineering technician for the Department of the Navy for twelve years, then moved to Mayport, FL to continue his civil service work. He retired from civil service after 15 years. After moving to Florahome, FL, Jesse finished his working career as a contractor for Anteon Corporation where he repaired 76 mm guns and missile launchers working on both the guns and control panels. In retirement, his passion was hospice care. He served as a volunteer hospice chaplain for several years while also volunteering in various ways at church. Jesse is survived by his children, Nora Absher of Jacksonville, FL and John Absher (Crystal) of Ladson, SC; grandsons, Ryan, Kyle, Nathan, and Evan Absher of Ladson, SC; brothers, Roger Absher of Winston- Salem, NC and Erban Absher (Linda) of Wilkesboro, NC; sisters, Virginia Brooks (Bobby) of Bowling Green, VA and Debbie Absher (Lenny) of Wilkesboro, NC; step-children, Tab Heath, Mark Heath, and Laura Heath; and step-grandchildren, Bridget Kunego (John), Brandon Burris (Crystal), Sela Maddalena, Nick Chennell (Christine), Dustin Heath, and Danielle Teetsel and their children. In addition to his parents, Jesse was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene Absher; daughter, Angela Absher; step-daughter, Cynthia Heath Chennell; and brothers, Jack Absher and Jerry Absher. A Celebration of Life will be held at Scottville Baptist Church, Laurel Springs, NC on July 19, 2025 at 12 pm. Burial will immediately follow at the church cemetery.
